Romancière et nouvelliste mauricienne, Ananda Devi est née en 1957 à Grand Port (Ile Maurice) de parents mauriciens d'origine indienne. A 15 ans, elle remporte le concours d'écriture de l'ORTF (l'ancêtre de Radio France et France Télévision). Son premier recueil de nouvelles est publié à 19 ans. Après ses études, Ananda Devi publie de nombreux romans où elle raconte les différentes facettes de son île natale. Éditée dans la célèbre Collection Blanche de Gallimard, elle reçoit le prix des cinq continents de la francophonie en 2006, ou encore le prix Louis-Guilloux en 2010. Elle vit aujourd'hui en France, dans le département de l'Ain.
